There's no denying it, the world loves Taylor Swift. And now there's proof! The country music superstar has just been crowned "Woman of the Year" by Billboard magazine and will be honored at the 2011 Billboard Women in Music event in New York on December 2nd. The 21-year-old singer is the youngest to ever receive this prestigious award, and previous winners include Beyoncé, Reba McEntire, and Fergie. Not really a bad group to join.
Of course, this honor didn't come without some hard work and dedication on Taylor's part. Her latest album, Speak Now, sold over 3.6 million copies since its release last fall, which is reportedly the most albums of any artist over the past year. Ms. Swift also became the youngest person ever to win a Grammy for best album in 2010, not to mention the fact she's also won numerous ACM, CMA and AMA awards. That's a pretty impressive resume for someone who's not even old enough to rent a car.
Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director, explained the magazine's decision in selecting Swift as the recipient of the honor, stating, "Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we're thrilled to recognize all of her successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award. At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come." As do the rest of us. Congrats to T-Swift!
